Fashion Police @ Vodafone Ghana Music Awards – By Nana Kwesi Suave Acquaye
So all too soon the 13th edition of Ghana Music Awards has come to an end, the most talk about event in Ghana. This year’s event had its fair share of controversies, as it has suffered every year. The issue of a new sponsor dominated the entertainment headlines latter part of last year. Which made some people made assertions that the GMA brand has become “cheap” that any Tom, Dick and Harry comes play with it and the next rich person also follow suit.
One controversy which also took centre stage was the issue of ticket pricing, from 70ghc to a whooping 100ghc, most people were asking if it was biometric or a lunch ticket for weeks unending amongst other witty questions. Let me take this opportunity to thank my soon to be in-law, who hooked yours truly up with the ticket. Yes you might say am a gold digger…hehehehe..but that is how come I was able to bring you this.
My interest here is not a general review. I was a fashion police who gave out no tickets for fashion crime! Lots of fashion graced the red carpet by our celebrities and socialites, no wonder am the S in the SUAVE.
Lets do the ratings; the folks who worked it and the faux pas committers…
For this year most of the brothers were rocking in the Nineteen 57 label by KOD, and I must say they all looked suave. Those who wanted to play it safe did it in their African wax print style and the exotic ones did their labels.
Confidence Haugen Ghana’s club kid did wack on the red carpet but redeemed herself in the fashion arena, as she sparkled in her purple gown with her neatly done bridal hairdo, made it to my list of best dressed celebs.
Soulful dive Gena West rocked it in her black silk Roberto Cavalli gown.
Stephanie Benson also spinned my head in her black gown designed by UK’s elite designer, she was spot on.
Joselyn Dumas the bootylicious presenter, was one of my top five best dressed celeb on the night. In her well beaded bustier and transparent silk gown, designed by one of my favorite designer in the world our very own Duaba Serwaa.
Eazzy Babe, was an epitome of simplicity is the ultimate sophistication on the night, in her black mini dress, clutch and gold pomps. Mildred you did it again this year.
Becca was the Ok girl on the night in her yellow apparel by pistis, for me her skin tone doesn’t work for me in a yellow colour, but she tried.
D black, got it well in his black suit and Calvin Klein shoes but I wasn’t sure of his shades. But all the same Desmond did it for me.
DSP Kofi Sarpong the cops who doubles as a gospel musician, came to the GMA’s looking like Stevie Wonder without his braids. Very well tailored suit but found it self in a wrong body…. Sgt. Better luck next time.
